School Officials and Mayor Speak Out After School Bus Crash

October 25, 2010-According to a statement that was issued after the school bus crash that also killed a pedestrian LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines expressed his condolences.

The Roosevelt High School officials stated the bus was involved in the crash due to a vehicle running a red light. There was a pedestrian killed and the bus flipped over on its side, skidding down the road.

There were 54 students on the bus from Roosevelt, of which 16 were transported to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The bus driver remains hospitalized and sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Cortines thanked the crews that responded to the scene of the bus crash and fatal pedestrian hit and run. He went on to say in the statement that the school has setup counseling for the students upset by the accident.

Cortines expressed his condolences to the family of the pedestrian that was killed and went on to state that it was a senseless act.
Mayor Antonio Villargaigosa was at the Roosevelt campus today to speak about the accident and the students well being. He said that most of the students are in shock due to the trauma of the bus crash.
