Santa Ana—Nine Pedestrians Struck By Drunk Driver—Two Toddlers in Critical Condition

September 7, 2010-According to reports nine people were struck by a drunk driver that jumped the curb. The driver identified as Miguel Sandoval age 43 of Santa Ana, according to police was traveling west in a 1998 Chevy Suburban when it jumped the curb.

According to Santa Ana Police Department Cpl. Anthony Bretagna the crash occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. west of South Bristol Street on West McFadden Avenue.

One of the victims that was struck was the mother of a two year old that is in critical condition, the woman was dragged 50 feet by an SUV.

Nine pedestrians were struck in the crowded shopping area and five of the victims were treated for injuries. The two year old girls both sustained multiple fractures and their mother sustained a broken leg, according to Cpl. Bretagna.

The woman and two year old were freed by bystanders and Santa Ana police officers that were in the area monitoring cruising activity.

Sandoval was arrested at the scene of the crash for suspicion of felony drunk driving and was still in custody Tuesday in the Santa Ana jail.
