Cruise Ship Passengers Frightened During Waves
March 4, 2010-According to reports passengers on the Louis Majesty are talking about their harrowing time at sea as twenty-six foot waves struck the ship, injuring as many as fourteen and causing the death of two passengers.
The waves that struck the ship causing damage and injuring passengers caused the ship to dock in Barcelona, Spain. During the incident there were windows broken in a restaurant and flooded cabins.
According to one French passenger from Marseille Claude Cremex while he was in his cabin resting due to the rough waters walls of water hit the cruise ship. Passengers were frightened and calling for ships doctors. Cremex age 73, who was traveling with his wife stated a lot of water came on the ship flooding many of the cabins.
There was also armature video footage taken by one of the passengers showing the time one of the giant waves struck the ship’s restaurant or lounge area. The video shows the windows blowing out, water flooding the flood and panicked passengers, with the sounds of crying in the background.
According to passengers Claudine Armand of France she had her husband, were in their cabin at the time one of the waves hit the ship and then heard the noise as the wave struck. Her husband said they would not need to wash the windows that night.
Armand said when they came out of their room the waves had flooded the ship. Another French resident Pierre Languillon said the damage on the ship was extensive and that he saw injured passengers after the waves struck the ship. Languillon stated he believed they avoided disaster and that all of the ships medical crew was called for, and believes they were lucky not having suffered any injuries.
According to Michael Maratheftis spokesman for Louis Cruise Lines stated fourteen passengers sustained minor injuries, but were taken to the hospital in Barcelona as a precaution for medical treatment. Maratheftis stated that arrangements have been made to fly the 1,350 passengers home, while the cruise ship is repaired. The ship Louis Majesty will resume its normal route after the repairs are completed later this month.
The two passengers that were fatally injured during the incident according to Maratheftis a German and Italian citizen were killed by shards of glass caused when the waves ripped out the window frames and furniture.
The second and third waves are the ones that cause the deaths, injuries and damages according to the Louis Cruise Lines and the waves were unexpected as the weather in the area was not really bad at the time.
