Worker Fatally Injured After Being Crushed by 5,000 Pounds of Granite

January 6, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a man was crushed to death in a work related accident.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Bill Marsh of the homicide department stated the man identified as Jacob Israel Margalit age 44 of Castaic was fatally injured in a work related accident.

Margalit was the owner of Golden West Tile and Stone in the 29000 block of Avenue Sherman in Valencia.

The accident occurred when employees were unloading 12 x 8 slabs of stone tile from a trailer when the stone tile fell on Margalit pinning him against the side wall of the trailer according to Sgt. Marsh.

The slabs are estimated to weigh between 800 and 1,000 pounds and the slab pinning Margalit against the side of the trailer had to be removed by authorities with the use of a crane.

According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office Margalit was pronounced dead shortly after the accident and is being investigated by the coroner’s office and the California Division of Occupational Safety and health.
