Off Duty Police Officer Arrested After Crash

January 5, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports an off duty police officer was taken into custody after a crashing into a concrete planter.

According to reports an off duty police officer from the sheriff’s department identified as Mark Hewlett was taken into custody after crashing into a planter in the Villa Park home of Orange County Supervisor Bill Campbell on December 13, 2009.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. when Campbell saw the officer’s lights flashing on the black BMW he was driving from his second store balcony.

Campbell was summoned by officers at the scene to witness a field sobriety test of the off duty officer, who blew a .13 on a breathalyzer test. Hewlett was arrested and taken into custody at the scene of the accident for driving under the influence.
