New Years DUI Arrests Rise Over 2009
January 2, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports there was a rise in the amount of New Years driving under the influence arrests.
The California Highway Patrol has stated that there were 527 drunk driving arrests that occurred between 6:00 p.m. December 31, 2009 and January 1, 2010 at 6:00 a.m. This is one hundred arrests larger than there were during the same period in 2009.
During that time period in 2009 there were 438 driving under the influence arrests that took place.
According to the California Highway Patrol the amount of vehicle deaths decreased this New Years holiday period. There were six driving under the influence deaths between December 31 and January 1st, being less than the eleven deaths during the same time period in 2009 in the state of California.
Driving under the influence arrests on the freeways from the Mexican border to the edge of Orange County rose this holiday from 84 in 2009, to 92 this New Years. According to the California Highway Patrol Los Angeles County had the largest amount of DUI arrests of any of the patrolled areas by the California Highway Patrol, with 108 driving under the influence arrests.
During the same period in 2009 there were 88 driving under the influence arrests in Los Angeles County by the California Highway Patrol.
