Metrolink Agrees To Pay $30 Million In Glendale Crash
October 15, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports by Metrolink accident lawyer, Ehline Law, Metrolink will pay $30 million for lawsuits that were filed in the 2005 Glendale Crash.
The 2005 Glendale Crash was the second deadliest Metrolink crash, and resulted in approximately 150 lawsuits. The accident resulted in 11 people killed and 180 injured after a Compton man parked his Grand Cherokee on the tracks, dousing it with gasoline in what he would later say was a failed suicide attempt.
This caused a three car southbound train that was being pushed by a locomotive to strike the vehicle and push it down the tracks before it derailed. The passenger car struck an idle freight train, jackknifing and slamming into a passenger train traveling northbound, in route to Burbank.
One of the legal aspects of the claims was Metrolink’s “push-pull” method of moving trains with a locomotive.
