Couple Heading to Motorcycle Safety Conference Killed On Motorcycle
September 21, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a motorcycle accident took the lives of a man that was known for being the president of the Bakersfield Toy Run and his wife.
The man identified as Jim Harmon age 58 and his wife were on their way to a motorcycle safety conference at the time of the motorcycle accident.
According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred in Kernville, while they were traveling south on Sierra Way, when a driver struck the motorcycle head on. The driver of the vehicle is identified as 74 year old Hazel Halloran who was traveling north when she lost control of the Buick she was driving, striking the motorcycle head on.
The impact of the crash ejected both riders; Harmon was transported to Kern Valley Hospital where he died within hours from the injuries he sustained after the crash. His wife was airlifted from the scene of the crash to Kern Medical Center where she also died from the injuries she sustained after being ejected from the motorcycle.
The 74 year old driver of the Buick sustained minor injuries as a result of the head on collision. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the head on crash. Harmon’s family stated that he and his wife were traveling to a weekend conference that was designed to promote motorcycle safety at the time of the crash.
