Car Crash Leaves Phelps In Walking Boot

August 23, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports by car accident lawyer, Michael Ehline, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps was injured when he was involved in a car crash that has left him wearing a walking boot.

Phelps was driving a Cadillac Escalade when he was involved in a three car collision in Baltimore, when a 28 year old woman ran a red light and struck Phelps Escalade on August 13th.

The Olympic swimming champion told Baltimore police that he had drank one beer an hour and fifteen minutes prior to the accident, according to reports. While he was not found to be driving under the influence, police did find he was driving with a suspended license for failure to pay a fine that was issued for failure to show proof of insurance. Phelps was also fined forty dollars for failing to establish legal residency in Maryland.

The 28 year old woman driving a Honda Accord has only been identified as a 28 year old woman and Maryland resident, who according to reports, was cited for running a red light, which caused the accident.

While there were no serious injuries in the three car crash collision, Phelps is now sporting a walking boot that covers his right foot and reaches almost to his knee for an ankle injury he sustained in the crash.

Phelps who made a statement at a speaking event on Saturday to promote his appearance on Shaquille O’Neal’s reality show, said he had been training and that everything is precautionary, that he did not sustain any major injury to his ankle in the car accident. He also stated that he has been in the water training during the week and is medically allowed to keep training with the injury.
