Driver Injures LAPD Police Officers In Hit and Run

August 22, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports two Los Angeles police officers were injured in a hit and run accident, by alleged 18 year old driver.

The two LAPD officers were injured when their patrol car was struck by the alleged teenage driver in a Honda Accord, after he ran a red light just after 3:00 a.m. The accident occurred in the vicinity of Virgil and Melrose Avenues according to Central Traffic Division Officer Fidel Gonzalez.

After the collision the driver and passenger in the grey Honda Accord fled the vehicle on foot and the driver was arrested shortly after the accident approximately a mile away. The passenger was not found and according to authorities after setting up a perimeter, using canine units and helicopters.

According to Officer Gonzalez the driver stated that he was on his way home from a party and driving his mother’s vehicle at the time of the hit and run. The driver’s identity has not been released and the authorities stated there was no indication that the 18 year old was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
