Suffer a Simplicity Crib Injury?

There has been a recent recall of many models of the Simplicity baby cribs, this recall while voluntary by the company according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission poses a risk of suffocation to infants. It is urged that anyone using these cribs stop immediately and return them to where they were purchased.The recall includes approximately 400,000 models of the crib sold in retail department stores, children’s stores, and mass merchandisers nationwide. These recalled models include: 8050, 8325, 8620, 8745, 8748, 8756, 8765, 8778, 8810, 8994, 8995, and 8996.The Simplicity cribs being recalled have been sold from January of 2005 through June of 2009.

These cribs have a defect causing their drop side hardware to deform or break, causing a gap where infants have become trapped and there has been the report of at least one death by suffocation. There have been two other infants trapped and at least 25 incidences of reported hardware issues.

These are the most recent incidences; in past years the Simplicity cribs that were sold from January 1998 and May 2007 included approximately one million flawed cribs that were recalled after the suffocation deaths of three infants. There were also reports of seven infants that became entrapped in the faulty design of the drop side and 55 incidents where the hardware on the drop sides failed.
