Simplicity Baby Crib Recall
July 5, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports by at least one products defect attorney, there has been a recall on Simplicity baby cribs by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recall affects approximately 400,000 Simplicity drop side cribs that pose a suffocation hazard according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. They stated that the hardware on the cribs could deform or break, which allows the drop side to detach and creates a gap between the mattress and the side of the crib.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission had reported about a Houston 8 month old that suffocated when the plastic hardware had broke on the Chinese made Simplicity baby crib leaving a gap between the drop side and the mattress.
This is not the first recall of these cribs, there was a Simplicity crib recall in September for approximately 600,000 drop side cribs that had similar defects and in 2007 when three was a recall of approximately 1 million older cribs. The recall came after two suffocation deaths when the children became trapped.
Patty Davis of the Consumer Product Safety Commission stated she cautioned parents using these cribs should stop immediately and check their website to see what actions should be taken next.
