Runaway Big Rig Truck at La Canada and Flintridge Kills Two
LA CANADA-FLINTRIDGE, Calif. (Ehline Law) -- According to reports by La Canada Big Rig truck accident attorneys, a car-carrying big-rig truck took a short sut through a steep incline of Angeles Crest Highway in California, and the breaks went out, which caused the big rig truck to lose control. Theoutof control big rig truck then crashed through a busy intersection in the cityof La Canada/Flintridge The witnesses state that the runaway truck slammed into several passengger vehicles, and ended up crashing into a book store. The police and news reports indicate that so far, two people have sufferred wrongful deaths, and many more are injured in critical condition at various hospitals.
Although two people were killed at the accident location, the initial reports indicate at least twelve other people were seriously injured. It is believed that may of the people suffered critical injuries due to the runway truck accident in La Canada. Initial reports show that the the truck operator ony suffered minor injuries.
There were actually two folks trapped in some rolled over SUV's who were freed by local firefighters. The mayor of La Canada is angered, since Cal Trans apparently rfailed to install a runaway truck ramp at he steep incline and there was a previous runaway big rig truck accident back in September at the same location. Here, the runaway big-rig actually crashed into a red sports car and split it in half, which killed the car operator in that motor vehicle.
There were several fireman, truck and ambulances at the scene quickly to help the injured folks. The runaway big rig truck came to rest at the Foothill Bookstore and Coffee House after crashing into it and injuring one who had minor injuries inside the store itself.
In addition to the alleged failed brakes, firemen report that the truck was actually leaking diesel fuel, which although a low flash point, still a fire hazard.
Other witnesses think the truck driver was unable to make a right-angle turn at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Angeles Crest Highway, which caused him to lose control of the rig. As discussed above, the Mayor and even local residents have also complained to Cal Trans about the intersection and steep incline in the past.
