NTSB Unable to Find the Engineers Cell Phone in the Wreckage
September 17, 2008 (by Otto Smyth)
According to reports and during the federal
NTSB investigation into the Friday afternoons
Chatsworth train crash the allegations that the engineer could
have been text-messaging minutes prior to the accident.
The National Transportation Safety Board is checking into these
allegations and they have stated they did not find a cell phone
that belonged to the train engineer Robert Sanchez. They have filed
a subpoena on Monday to get the cell phone records of Sanchez from
Verizon Wireless according to spokes person Kitty Higgins. She also
stated that Verizon Wireless would have five days to respond to the
subpoena.
To stop the use of cell phones by train employees the top
California rail safety regulator is requesting an order to ban the
use of cell phones by train operators.
The president of the California Public Utilities Commission
stated that some railroad operators might have their own policies
on the use of cell phones and other personal devices, however these
policies are ignored.
The vote by the California Public Utilities Commission will be
voting on this emergency ban on Thursday September 18th. If you
were injured in the Chatsworth train crash, call
