Who Is Affected Mostly By Motorcycle Crash Incidents?

In 2004 the statistics show that there were 4008 motorcycle riders that died as a result of their injuries and there were another 76,000 riders that were injured. Approximately forty percent of the riders were between the ages of 16 and 29 and another twenty percent that were between the ages of 15 and 20 and of these riders who were killed approximately ninety percent were males. The percentage of females who were killed more than seventy percent were passengers on the motorcycles.

Another thing that statistics show is that the riders have approximately a fourteen percent greater chance of being involved in a fatal accident and those motorists in vehicles. They also get deglove injuries and suffer amputations. When involved in an accident they are three times as apt to be injured over that of the driver in a vehicle. While there are approximately two percent of the registered vehicles being motorcycles when it comes to fatal injuries during an accident motorcycle riders average approximately six percent of fatalities in traffic.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the amount of injuries increased approximately seven percent from 2001 and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, which is an advocacy organization for the rights and safety of riders agrees the fatality statistics from 2000 is lower than that of 2001.

Why Motorcycle Accidents and Fatalities Will Continue To Rise

One of the reasons why accidents and injuries will continue to grow is because of the continued rise in sales. As an example in 1990 there were about 300,000 new motorcycles sold as compared with the year 2000 when there were 710,000 new bikes sold and each year this figure continues to rise.

Another reason for increased motorcycle accidents is that many states have cut back or did away with rider training funds. In this state riders are still obligated to pay extra fees on registration that was begun as a way to fund rider training. Many riders also volunteer their time to teach in driver’s education course classes like Motorists Awareness of Motorcycles and other classes that make the motorist aware of bikes on the road.
