Cruise Ship Runs Aground

February 27, 2008 (by Otto Smyth) Cruise ship lawyers Los Angeles
report that the cruise ship Leylon Sneed drifted aground on
February 19th at the Trunk Bay reef while loading passengers. They
have reported that no one had been injured and that the mooring
chain had broken and it is thought that it was due to heavy winds.
The passengers were taken from the ship and taken by taxi to Cruz
Bay according to a press release, the passengers numbered
approximately 70. It was reported that most of the 70 passengers
were not on board the ship at the time it ran aground. The ship was
towed off the reef at about 5:30 that evening and returned to Cruz
Bay under its own power; damages if any had not been assessed. The
co-owner felt that the damages when a dive would be done would be
minor. Damage to the reef will also be investigated according to
reports; this is being conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard and the
Virgin Islands National Park and in continuing at this time. If you
