Loose Trailer Causes I-57 Chain Reaction Multi-Vehicle Crash
February 3, 2012 – According to reports a loose trailer caused a three vehicle chain reaction crash on the I-57 Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol the three vehicle accident occurred on the I-57 at approximately 7:20 a.m. at Tonner Canyon.
The California Highway Patrol stated that a box truck was pulling a trailer in the no. 4 northbound lane when it broke loose from the truck. The trailer drifted across lanes of traffic coming to a stop in the northbound HOV lane.
The driver of the truck was not aware that the trailer came lose, CHP Officer P. Gomez said. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Gomez a Chevy pickup behind the truck yielded and a white Nissan Sentra came to a stop in the carpool lane, behind the pickup.
The chain reaction collision occurred when a black Nissan Sentra left the fast lane and came into the carpool lane hitting the back of the white Sentra causing it to hit the back of the Chevy pickup and become crushed.
According to Officer Gomez there were three people injured in the white Nissan Sentra.
