Fatally Injured Bicyclist in Hit and Run Crash Identified

January 26, 2012 – According to reports a bicyclist that was fatally injured in a hit and run accident has been identified as a Santa Ana man.

According to authorities a bicyclist that was struck and fatally injured Friday in the 100 block of South Broadway at approximately 6:45 p.m. has been identified as Elfego Lozano-Nicolas age 39 of Santa Ana.

According to Supervising Deputy Coroner Larry Esslinger, Lozano-Nicolas was unconscious when paramedics arrived at the scene of the hit and run. The Santa Ana man was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and listed in critical condition.

Esslinger said that Lozano-Nicolas died from blunt force head trauma the following day. According to police the vehicle involved in the hit and run, is believed to be a white pickup truck and it could be a Toyota Tundra model.

The truck has been described as having a ladder rack and ladders on the top of the pickup. It is missing one of the hubcaps that came off the truck at the scene of the hit and run.
