Driver Killed in Early Morning I-80 Road Rage Crash
January 25, 2012- According to reports a driver was killed in an I-80 crash that authorities believe was a road rage incident.
According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the I-80 Freeway in the vicinity of Carlson Boulevard in Richmond.
The California Highway Patrol believes the accident occurred when the driver of a minivan attempted to cut off a pickup truck and struck it. The impact caused the driver of the minivan to lose control, resulting in hitting the center divider and then rolling over several times.
According to California Highway Patrol officials the driver of the minivan that is suspected of road rage, died at the scene of the crash. The driver has not been identified yet and the minivan was registered to a resident of El Sobrante.
The pickup truck driver was not injured in the collision, according to the CHP. The California Highway Patrol said the three westbound lanes of I-80 were blocked after the crash and were reopened at approximately 8:00 a.m. Traffic was significantly delayed and the cause of the crash remains under investigation, CHP officials said.
