Light Rail Transit Cars Collide 44 Injured

July 19, 2009-According to reports by a California train accident lawyer, there were 44 people injured Saturday in a San Francisco light rail collision involving two trains.

Two San Francisco light rail trains collided injuring 44 passengers according to police, who stated the accident is still under investigation. The accident occurred at approximately 2:57 p.m. when one of the trains was stopped and another came out of a tunnel that connects downtown San Francisco to the western neighborhood.

The trains collided when the moving train struck the rear of the stopped train, both of which were carrying passengers. The 44 people that were injured in the light rail collision were transported to San Francisco General Hospital.

It was reported the train coming out of the tunnel was traveling at low speed at the time of the crash, and occurred on the outbound platform of the West Portal Station according to Judson True, spokesman for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. After the collision all of the light rail trains were stopped in both directions.

According to Leslie Dubbin the administrator of operations for the San Francisco General Hospital stated that none of the injuries were fatal.
